McAllen, Tx– McAllen is back in the national spotlight. A recent LawnStarter analysis indicates community members cited a variety of elements that made them proud to call themselves McAllen residents.
“There is no better measure of quality of life and what your city is all about than how your citizens feel about their city,” Mayor Jim Darling said. “Being proud of your city is not a given, it means that business, government and most importantly our citizens care about their City of McAllen.”
The criteria used to gauge community pride is as follows:
Purpose: Liking what you do each day and being motivated to achieve your goals
Social: Having supportive relationships and love in your life
Financial: Managing your economic life to reduce stress and increase security
Community: Liking where you live, feeling safe, and having pride in your community
Physical: Having good health and enough energy to get things done daily
Tony Roma’s franchise owner Rick Guerra said McAllen lures people in with a remarkable quality of life.
“McAllen is a special place where people work together to make a better community. I have been here 45 years, married and raised my three boys here,” Guerra said. “The Boys and Girls Club, ballparks, schools, and great hike and bike trails all show that McAllen has a very high quality of life and I’m glad that now my grandkids will enjoy that. I know a place that is clean, safe and vibrant, McAllen, Texas.”
In recent accolades, year-round sunshine, a state-of-the-art public library and the Quinta Mazatlan World Birding Center were credited for making McAllen one of the best places to live, work and play.
“This city is innovative. For example, it flipped a vacant Wal-Mart building into the largest one-floor library in the country and transformed a bus stop into a playground. My personal favorite is the accessibility and walkability the city is focused on by providing more green shared spaces,” McAllen resident Robert De Leon said. “If you are looking for a thriving city, one with connectedness and culture, look no further. The City of McAllen is that city.”
