Man sentenced to life for continuous sexual abuse of a child

The Office of the District Attorney reports a guilty verdict for Kayro Moreno, 48, who was charged with continuous sexual abuse of his girlfriend’s daughter.
The case came to light on August 17, 2013, when the victim out cried to her relatives stating that her mother’s boyfriend, Kayro Moreno, had sexually assaulted her during the course of three years since she was 7 years old. The victim’s relatives proceeded to call the Laredo Police Department to file a report for sexual assault of a child. The victim was subsequently taken to the Children’s Advocacy Center to undergo a forensic interview. The victim stated that the sexual assault would take place at her house, while her mother was at work, and that it occurred more than 15 times.
Moreno was apprehended and charged with one count of continuous sexual abuse of a child, a first-degree felony in the State of Texas.
The trial, which took place before the 406th District Court, was heard by a jury over the course of two days rendering their verdict after two hours of deliberation. The jury heard testimony from the victim, her family, an LPD Investigator, a counselor from the Children’s Advocacy Center, a physician, and a psychologist. The jury found Kayro Moreno guilty of continuous sexual abuse of a child and sentenced him to life in prison. He will begin his sentence immediately at the Texas Department of Criminal Justice Institutional Division
Assistant District Attorneys Joaquin Rodriguez, Julia Rubio and Pedro Morales prosecuted the case for the State.
