LAREDO, TEXAS – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Office of Field Operations (OFO) officers at the Laredo Port of Entry recently seized $159,000 in heroin hidden within a vehicle.

“I congratulate the CBP officers for their vigilance and dedication to the border security mission,” said (A) Port Director Eugene Crawford, Laredo Port of Entry.  “Our CBP officers remain alert and have become experts on identifying the numerous smuggling trends utilized at our port of entry.”

The seizure occurred on Sunday, August 5 at the Juarez-Lincoln International Bridge. A CBP officer referred a 1994 Ford Lightning driven by a 22-year-old male United States citizen for a secondary inspection.  Upon a canine and physical inspection, CBP officers discovered three packages hidden within the vehicle. CBP officers extracted the packages from the vehicle and discovered a total of seven pounds of alleged heroin. The heroin has a street value of $159,000.

CBP OFO seized the narcotics and the vehicle.  The driver was arrested and the case was turned over to Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) special agents for further investigation.
