United ISD High School Students Excel at District UIL Meet

(Laredo, Texas)-United ISD’s four high schools recently attended the UIL District Academic Championship held in Eagle Pass. The event features a series of different areas in which students can compete all vying for a spot to advance to the next level as well as attain the most points for their campus and win the Academic Sweepstakes. Students who place in the top three in their respective categories earn a spot to advance to compete at the regional level. Of the hundreds of students from school districts in the area students from John B. Alexander High School took first place overall for Academic Sweepstakes Award followed by United South and United High School respectively.

 “We are extremely proud of this great accomplishments our students have made,” said Roberto J. Santos, Superintendent of Schools. “We wish them luck and much success at the great regional level,” he added.

 The students will be traveling to San Antonio, Texas in April where they’ll attend the UIL Regional Meet at the University of Texas at San Antonio. Students will compete in various areas such as, Accounting, Calculator Applications, Computer Applications, Computer Science, Cross-Examination Debate, Current Issues & Events, Editorial Writing, Feature Writing, Headline Writing, Informative Speaking, Lincoln-Douglas Debate, Literary Criticism, Mathematics, News Writing, Number Sense, One-Act Play, Persuasive Speaking, Poetry Interpretation, Prose Interpretation, Ready Writing, Science, Social Studies and Spelling

& Vocabulary.
