(Laredo, Texas)-The United Middle School (U.MS.) Y.O.L.O (You Only Live Once) club espouses the virtues of character building and service to others through various projects that benefit schools and the community at large. Recently, the club raised funds through their Bucks for Bookscampaign. The funds were utilized to purchase 2000 novels for the District’s 29 elementary campuses. The books will be distributed to 3rd-5th grade students at each campus.
The Y.O.L.O. club was established by 7th grade reading teacher Ruth Vazquez. U.M.S. Principal Rebecca Morales said that the donation of books to the District’s elementary schools is a gesture of appreciation for the work they put into preparing students for academic challenges at the secondary level. “We thank our elementary school teachers and librarians for instilling a love of reading in students. In doing so, they are preparing them for success in middle school and beyond”, said Morales.
