United High School Counselor Named Texas A&M 2018 Very Important Counselor

(Laredo, Texas)-United High School Magnet Counselor, Joanna Pena-Garcia, was awarded the Texas A&M 2018 Very Important Counselor of the Year. This prestigious award recognizes the outstanding service and important work of high school counselors, teachers, and personnel in guiding students on the path to college.
A former student nominated Mrs. Pena-Garcia and described her as a passionate educator who goes above and beyond to assist her students on the path to college. Mrs. Pena-Garcia is a veteran educator of United ISD who is currently works as the Magnet Counselor to the United High School Engineering and Technology Magnet Program.
Included in this award is an all expense paid trip to Texas A&M College Station where she will be honored at a special recognition dinner. This award also carries a scholarship for a graduating senior planning to attend Texas A&M College Station in Fall of 2018.
“This award recognizes the caliber of work and dedication Mrs. Pena-Garcia exemplifies,” said Roberto J. Santos, Superintendent of United ISD. “We are very proud she’s received this recognition,” he added.
