CBP Officers at Laredo Port of Entry Seize $227K in Hard Narcotics in Multiple Seizures

LAREDO, Texas—U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Field Operations (OFO) CBP officers at Laredo Port of Entry in recent days seized loads of varied hard narcotics with a combined total street value exceeding $227,000 from two body carriers.
“These back to back seizures in the passenger environment show the constant nature of the drug threat our officers face daily and attempts to move hard narcotics in smaller amounts to avoid detection,” said Port Director Alberto Flores, Laredo Port of Entry.
On Tuesday, Mar. 6, CBP officers at the Gateway to the Americas Bridge referred a 38-year-old female Mexican citizen pedestrian for a secondary inspection. During the secondary examination, CBP officers discovered packages within the woman’s purse. CBP officers discovered four packages containing a total of 5.13 pounds of alleged methamphetamine. The narcotics have an estimated street value of $71,914.
Also on March 6, CBP officers at the same bridge referred a male 30-year-old Mexican citizen pedestrian from Monterrey, Nuevo Leon for a secondary inspection, which revealed two packages containing five pounds of alleged heroin and one package containing 2.5 pounds of alleged cocaine under his clothing. The narcotics have an estimated street value of $155,840.
CBP OFO arrested the pedestrians and seized the narcotics. Both cases remain under investigation by Homeland Security Investigations special agents.
