(Laredo, Texas)- “Together Everyone Achieves More” was the sentiment echoed by administrators and staff from both United ISD and Laredo ISD at a joint press conference .
Both districts united as one to inform parents whose children participate in Bilingual/ESL Programs of upcoming language assessments students will be taking starting this week. Texas English Language Proficiency Assessment System, or TELPAS as educators commonly know it, is a state mandated assessment all children who participate in Bilingual/ESL Programs across the state must take yearly.
The assessment measures a student’s language acquisition and proficiency in a number of areas depending on grade level and oral language proficiency. The assessments are unique in form and differ from the STAAR test in that some portions of the assessment are ongoing and are holistically rated by campus personnel who are certified TELPAS raters.
District personnel from both districts would like parents to prepare their children for these upcoming assessments by encouraging students to get a good night’s rest and eat a good breakfast.
