George Washington Middles School Students See Inspirational New Film Ahead of Release

Courtesy Alex Meyer,

(Laredo, Texas)-Recently, students in the George Washington Middle School (GWMS),Library Book Club enjoyed an advanced screening of Wonder. The upcoming theatrical release is based on a book written by author R.J. Palacio. Wonder is the story of a 10 year old boy whose facial deformity causes others to avoid and shun him. When he enters a mainstream school, the boy must learn to cope with difficult new situations and new people. Prior to viewing the film, students read the book and had an internet Q&A session with cast members Daveed Diggs and Izabela Vidovic.

GWMS has been part of the Random House Publishing Choose Kind Certified classroom program for the past three years, and it was the publishing company that facilitated the advance screening of the film, which is scheduled for theatrical release on November 17, 2017. The Choose Kind Certified initiative focuses on teaching kindness in schools, and its goals are comparable to those of UISD’s Meet In The Middle program, which promotes kindness and inclusion among students with and without disabilities.
