United High School Longhorn Band Takes Third in Austin Competition

(Laredo, Texas)-The United High School Mighty Longhorn Band competed in Austin at the prestigious Westlake Marching Festival on Saturday Oct. 14th, 2017. In a show fit for Broadway the band is featuring music from various well-known artists throughout the show. The show is titled “We Will Rach You.”
The band earned 2nd in their division during the preliminaries, which pushed them into the finals. “Our students continue to exceed our expectations,” stated John J. Mallon, Band Director for United High School. Of the 19 bands participating only 11 bands moved on to the finals.
For their final performance of the evening the Mighty Longhorn Band stood proud and held their own against some of the state’s top performing schools. The band took third place and bragging rights as they were met with standing ovations and cheers from the crowd.
This is the second marching band competition United High School has participated in this marching band season. They will continue their tour on October 21, 2017 at UIL Competition and move on to two more marching festivals one in Edinburg Marching Festival and Band of America San Antonio.
