United High School Airforce JROTC Scores Several Wins at Palm View Competition

(Laredo, Texas)-United High School Air Force (AFJROTC), cadets recently competed in the Palm View Competition Meet in Brownsville, Texas.
The event was comprised of 20 high school teams vying for wins in various drill and physical training tests. Highlights of the competition included Cadet 2nd Lt. Sebastian Maldonado’s exceptional performance in the physical training competition, which included a timed segment of pull-ups, sit-ups and a 600 meter run. This feat of strength and endurance helped Maldonado win the Top Male Cadet title.
In the drill team competition, the UHS Armed and Unarmed teams placed in all categories – Exhibition, Regulation, and Inspection. The Unarmed Drill Team placed 2nd overall, and team commander, Cadet Captain Cecilia Ramirez, won Best Commander honors in her division. In addition, Cadet Captain Domonique Gutierrez led the Armed Drill Team to 3rd place overall during his very first competition in a leadership role.
The UHS AFJROTC team also earned the Overall First Place trophy. The team was led by Major Jose Loya and MSgt. Charles Blakeney. “My AFJROTC staff and I are extremely proud of the cadets. All of their hard work has led to outstanding accomplishments”, said Loya.
