(Laredo, Texas)-Sometimes, all it takes for dreams to come true is to say them out loud and, perhaps, someone out there is listening. For one United High School student this rang true today. Martin Alexis Aviles, or Alex as his friends know him, was recently featured in an article by The Laredo Morning Times (LMT). Throughout the month of September, LMT features children from our community to raise awareness about childhood cancer. In the article, Alex spoke of his dreams of becoming a Customs and Border Protection Officer. Acting on his wish, the U.S Customs and Border Protection Agency joined forces with United High School to make Alex’s dream of becoming a CBP Officer come true.
In a short ceremony with fellow classmates, teachers, and family in attendance Laredo Port Director Gregory Alvarez administered the oath all CBP Officers accept upon graduation from the academy. It was then that Port Director Alvarez named Martin Alexis Aviles Honorary CBP Office for the day. Following the ceremony Honorary CBP Officer Aviles accompanied his new colleagues to the Lincoln-Juarez International Bridge where he participated and experienced a day in the life of a CBP Officer.
