UT OnRamps Symposium Prepares UISD High School Teachers to Apply College Level Curriculum

Courtesy Alex Meyer,

(Laredo, Texas)-A UT OnRamps Partnership Symposium was held in Austin, Texas during the latter part of July 2017. In attendance were United Independent School District (UISD), Physics and Pre –Calculus teachers. With OnRamps, the University of Texas at Austin and UISD have partnered to offer college credit to mathematics and physics students in UISD high schools.

This year’s program helped prepare four UISD physics teachers to teach General Physics I, and provided continuing support for the Pre-Calculus teachers who attended the symposium.

UISD and the University of Texas at Austin (UT), will offer the year-long curriculum to high school students with an option to be dual enrolled in a UT Austin undergraduate course through the University Extension.

Part of the mission of OnRamps is to develop a team of teachers in the state of Texas who are facilitating dual-credit at the level of rigor required for students to excel in subsequent college coursework.

This partnership between UT Austin and UISD is representative of OnRamps’ broader mission to collaborate with innovative educators to increase the number and diversity of students who experience rigorous, high-quality dual-credit coursework that develops deep conceptual knowledge and academic skills aligned with the expectations of leading research universities.

Students who are interested in taking General Physics I or Discovery Pre-Calculus through this program should contact their high school counselor for additional details.
