CBP Officers Seize More Than $1.8 Million Worth in Marijuana at the Laredo Port of Entry

LAREDO, TEXAS –U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers recently seized a significant amount of alleged marijuana carrying an estimated street value of more than $1,000,000 in two separate enforcement actions.

“CBP officers at the Laredo Port of Entry work hard to intercept and stop smugglers from smuggling dangerous narcotics into our country,” said Port Director Gregory Alvarez, Laredo Port of Entry. “I commend the officers for their continued vigilance and dedication to the CBP mission.”

The first seizure occurred on Wednesday, Aug. 16 at the World Trade Bridge when a CBP officer referred a 2004 International tractor trailer hauling a shipment of frozen mangos to secondary for further inspection. Upon a canine and non-intrusive inspection of the shipment by CBP officers, a total of 480 packages allegedly containing 3,624 pounds of marijuana was discovered.

The last seizure occurred on Wednesday, Aug. 16 at the Colombia Solidarity Bridge when a CBP officer referred a 2000 Freightliner tractor trailer hauling a shipment of napkin towels to secondary for further inspection. Upon a canine and non-intrusive inspection of the trailer by CBP officers, a total of 472 packages allegedly containing 5,469 pounds of marijuana was discovered.

Both seizures combined have an estimated street value of $1,818,794.

CBP officers seized the narcotics and the cases were turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations (ICE-HSI) special agents for further investigation.
