TAMIU SBDC Presents HR Summit for Small Business Wednesday-Thursday, Aug. 2-3

(Laredo, Txas)-Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) Small Business Development Center (TAMIU SBDC) will present a two-day conference for small business operators entitled, “HR Summit for Small Business,” Wednesday-Thursday, Aug. 2-3 from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. at Falcon Bank, located on 7718 McPherson Road (3rd floor).
Exclusively tailored for small business owners, managers, team leaders and human resources professionals, the Conference will delve into relevant topics ranging from growing their workforce from the bottom-up to managing, measuring and justifying the value and importance of human capital.
Falcon Bank is the Conference sponsor. Registration fee is $99. Participants can register online at http://sbdc.tamiu.edu or by calling SBDC offices at 956.326.2827. The registration fee includes course material as well as breakfast and lunch, provided by Falcon Bank.
Among presenters will be Doanh Nguyen, board certified, labor and employment attorney. His presentation is entitled, “Strategic HR Planning: Scalable HR Resources.” He will discuss adding value through HR, scaling HR, building organizational culture and internal brand, and policies that empower.
Another speaker, Deirdre Patillo, is project manager for employer services for the South-West Texas Border SBDC Network. Her presentations are entitled, “The Employment Lifecycle: Creating Fair and Legal Policies to Recruit, Hire, Develop and Terminate Employees,” and “Dealing with Difficult People: Generational Differences in the Workplace.”
William Simmons, legal counsel to Texas Workforce Commission Commissioner Ruth R. Hughs, will also present on “What Employers Need to Know About Workers’ Compensation and Managing The Cost of Job Related Injury.” He will discuss how to control costs, avoid difficulties and problems following an injury and how to work effectively with insurance carriers, doctors and injured employees.
Jorge González, president of FalconSure Insurance Agency, will present on “Protect What Counts,” discussing commercial and personal insurance.
The SBDC has been assisting small businesses in the community for over 20 years. The TAMIU SBDC is a unique partnership between TAMIU and the University of Texas at San Antonio, with its main office located in TAMIU’s Sue and Radcliffe Killam Library.
Since 2011, the TAMIU SBDC has had a total of 2,961 new clients, and provided 14,364 counseling hours to new and existing businesses. In 2016 alone, some 63,000 businesses in the region were served.
