Laura Gonzalez-Vasquez named Principal for Gutierrez Elementary School

(Laredo, Texas) The United Independent School District Board of Trustees and Superintendent Roberto J. Santos named Ms. Laura Gonzalez -Vasquez as the new Principal for Gutierrez elementary school. The formal announcement was made at UISD’s March 19, 2017 Board Meeting. Ms. Gonzalez-Vasquez is replacing former Principal Ms. Claudia C. Dovalina -Guzman, who is now Director of Special Education for the district.
Ms. Gonzalez-Vasquez is a native of Laredo who attained the UISD Teacher of the Year Award in 2007, and was nominated for a Golden Apple Award in 2010. Her stellar academic background includes multiple certifications in Technology Application, Library Science and Bilingual/ESL-Spanish. Also noteworthy are her three Master Degrees in Computer Science and Information Systems, Library Science and Educational Administration.
Ms. Gonzalez-Vasquez launched her career with UISD as a PK Teacher and Educational Technology Trainer at Cuellar elementary school in the year 2000. Subsequently, she served as Master Technology Teacher for Alexander high school and the UISD Instructional Department (2005-2006) , Library Media Specialist at Arndt elementary school (2008-2010), Assistant Principal at Killam elementary school (2010-2013), and most recently, Assistant Principal at De Llano elementary school. “ I would like to thank the Board of Trustees and Superintendent Santos for giving me the opportunity to serve the District as a Principal. I am looking forward to working with my new staff, students, parents, and community members. Together, we will work to continue meeting the district goals of student success”, said Ms. Gonzalez-Vasquez.
