Laredo, Texas – A tip to the Webb County Sheriff’s Office Wednesday afternoon led to the arrest of a Nuevo Laredo man on possession of marijuana charges.
At approximately 6:27 pm Wednesday, the Webb County Sheriff’s Office dispatch office received a call about two vehicles, a Grey Mazda 6 with dealer tags and a red four-door car, that were involved in loading up undocumented persons in Zapata County.
Immediately after placing a lookout, a Sheriff’s deputy spotted both vehicles on Highway 83, and as he attempted to stop the red car, it increased its speed and went off the highway, crashing into the barb-wire fence. The subject ran away, but the deputy was able to locate five bundles of marijuana, weighing in at 205 pounds.
Minutes later, another deputy located the Grey Mazda and arrested Arnol Alfredo Valadez Mendez, 22, of Nuevo Laredo, on possession of marijuana charges. He was remanded to the Webb County Jail.
“I congratulate our deputies for their quick reaction. This is another example on how we continue striving to get these drugs off the streets,” said Sheriff Martin Cuellar.
Sheriff Cuellar reminds the public to get involved in the fight against drugs and to report any suspicious activity by calling 956-523-4408.
