McAllen, Texas – U.S. Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (D-McAllen) announced $2.9 million in Airport Improvement Program funding from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for the McAllen International Airport. The funds will be used for terminal building improvements, the installation of airport beacons, apron reconstruction, and runway and taxiway rehabilitation.
“These vital infrastructure improvements will enable all those at McAllen International Airport, from air traffic controllers to operations staff to pilots and flight attendants, to continue providing travelers with a safe and seamless flying experience,” said Congressman Gonzalez. “I look forward to seeing these improvements and will continue to advocate for more federal funding for the airport.”
McAllen Mayor Jim Darling had the following to say about the allocation of funds.
The allocation of these funds will allow us to make significant improvements to the airport, and in turn, help us to attract more airlines and passengers. We thank the FAA for this significant investment in our airport and Congressman Gonzalez for his continued support.”
