LAREDO, TEXAS – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers recently seized a significant amount of alleged liquid methamphetamine, valued at more than $400,000, at Colombia-Solidarity Bridge in one enforcement action.
“This was an excellent interception by our CBP officers and a great example of the layered enforcement implemented by CBP,” said Port Director Gregory Alvarez, Laredo Port of Entry. “I congratulate the officers for upholding the CBP mission while facilitating lawful trade and travel and keeping our homeland safe from illicit drugs entering our country.”
The seizure occurred on Thursday, June 16, at the Colombia Solidarity Bridge when a CBP officer referred a 2007 Freightliner tractor trailer hauling a 2000 flatbed trailer transporting a shipment of gypsum wall board for a secondary examination. A non-intrusive imaging system and canine inspection of the tractor resulted in the discovery of nine bottles containing a total of 22.6 pounds of alleged liquid methamphetamine. The methamphetamine carries an estimated street value of $452,383.
CBP officers seized the narcotics and tractor. The driver was arrested and the case was turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations (ICE-HSI) special agents for further investigation.
