Man Found Guilty of Evading Arrest

(Laredo, Texas)-The Office of the District Attorney reports a guilty verdict for Ernesto Javier Lopez for evading arrest.

The case came to light on January 20, 2016, when an officer from the Laredo Police Department observed a vehicle disregard a red light at the intersection of Sierra Vista Blvd. and U.S. Highway 83. The officer immediately activated his emergency lights and siren intending to stop the driver, but the driver continued at a high rate of speed. The chase ensued down south of U.S. Highway 83. The driver of the silver Chrysler 300 finally stopped at the intersection of Soria Dr. and U.S. Highway 83. The driver identified as Ernesto Javier Lopez, was charged with evading arrest and reckless driving, a third degree felony and a class B misdemeanor in the State of Texas, respectively.

The trial took place before the 341st District Court Judge Becky Palomo. The jury rendered their guilty verdict after two hours of deliberation. The court assessed a punishment of probation for 10 years.

Assistant District Attorneys Ana de la Rosa, Claudia Sandoval and Francisco Rodriguez prosecuted the case for the State.
