City of McAllen Stands with Hidalgo County Regarding SB4

Courtesy Xochitl Mora,

(McCallen, Texas)-Earlier this week, Texas Gov. Abbot signed into law SB4, requiring police chiefs, officers, sheriffs, deputies and other local law enforcement beginning on September 1, 2017 to ask individuals who have been detained for other infractions regarding their immigration status.

Sheriff Guerra, Chief Rodriguez and other law enforcement personnel will speak to the lack of training local law enforcement have regarding immigration status and reviewing immigration documents.

Mayor Darling will talk about how he hopes visitors from Reynosa, Tamps., MEX and throughout Mexico will still be welcome in McAllen, as it will be business as usual. “If you felt safe in McAllen last week, you will feel safe in McAllen in the future, as well.”
