LAREDO, TEXAS – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers recently seized a significant amount of alleged crystal methamphetamine valued at more than $350,000 in one enforcement action.

“I congratulate the officers in advancing the CBP mission and protecting the public from illegal narcotics,” said Port Director Gregory Alvarez, Laredo Port of Entry. “CBP officers display exemplary vigilance in keeping dangerous drugs off our streets.”

The seizure occurred on Wednesday, May 17, at the Lincoln-Juarez International Bridge, when a CBP officer referred a 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt, driven by a 49-year-old female United States citizen from San Antonio, Texas for a secondary examination. CBP officers conducted a thorough examination of the vehicle which resulted in the discovery of 14 packages allegedly containing 18 pounds of crystal methamphetamine. The crystal methamphetamine carries a street value of $351,854.

CBP officers seized the narcotics and the vehicle. The subject was arrested and the case was turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations (ICE-HSI) special agents for further investigation.
