COLUMBUS, OhioX– Washington Prime Group, a retail REIT and a recognized leader in the ownership, management, acquisition and development of retail properties, will expand its Palms Crossing development in McAllen, Texas with the construction of another 17,000 square feet of shop space to commence April 2017. The planned project will feature new dining and retail options including Cowboy Chicken, Il Forno and a first-ever location for Reserva Coffee Roasters.

“Washington Prime Group is committed to making this investment at Palms Crossing, which will enhance the shopping experience with the right combination of retail and dining options,” said Paul Ajdaharian, Executive Vice President, Community Lifestyle Centers, of Washington Prime Group. “We remain focused on bringing new retailers and eateries to the market which keep shoppers engaged and returning often.”

This next phase of development, slated to be completed during spring 2018, follows in the footsteps of the 2015 expansion of Palms Crossing, which added several eateries including Zoe’s Kitchen, Nothing Bundt Cakes, Chipotle Mexican Grill and Corner Bakery Café. The latest expansion, to include Cowboy Chicken, Il Forno and Reserva Coffee Roasters will complement these popular selections.

Cowboy Chicken is a fast-casual eatery that will serve freshly made rotisserie-style chicken, enchiladas, sandwiches, salads and desserts. Locally-owned Il Forno, an authentic Italian restaurant, will offer diners a delicious menu of pastas, pizza, antipastas, fish and steaks. Reserva Coffee Roasters will open their first location in McAllen, Texas and serve freshly brewed, hand-crafted beverages created with high-quality coffee beans from around the world. Additional tenants will be announced at a later date.

This expansion will be located at the corner of Ithaca and Ware Roads. The balance of the existing project will remain open during construction with minimal interference to shoppers.

“As an economic driver in this great community, Palms Crossing remains focused on our shoppers who want access to great shopping and dining concepts,” said Doug Snyder, General Manager at Palms Crossing. “This effort expands what we now offer, which we believe will entice our valued shoppers to shop, dine and spend more time here with friends and family.”

Shoppers will continue to enjoy Palms Crossing’s variety of retail and dining options, including recently opened Mariscos La Costa and Tapioca Rush, plus Bealls, Babies R’ Us, Torrid, DSW, Ulta, Barnes & Noble, La Costa Grill, BJ’s Restaurant and Brewhouse, P.F. Chang’s and Cheddar’s.

“McAllen continues to be the leader in luring unique and exciting shopping destinations in our city, that attract shoppers and visitors from throughout the Rio Grande Valley, South Texas and northern Mexico,” said Jim Darling, City of McAllen Mayor. “This expansion by Washington Prime Group at their Palms Crossing location will further solidify McAllen as the leader in shopping and dining options in the region. Additionally, I’m excited about the economic impact this project will have for our city from those who will be employed in the construction of the shopping center, to all those who will work at the newly expanded retail center and of course, all of the shoppers and diners who will soon be able to enjoy additional dining and retail options there.”
