DSC02190LAREDO, TEXAS – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers recently seized a noteworthy amount of marijuana with an estimated street value of more than $166,000 at World Trade Bridge in one enforcement action.

“Every load of narcotics that we intercept at our ports of entry helps to keep our streets safer,” said Port Director Gregory Alvarez, Laredo Port of Entry. “Our CBP officers remain alert and continue to protect our nation from drugs and people who pose a threat to our communities and our way of life.”

The seizure occurred on Tuesday, March 28, when a CBP officer referred a 2006 Ford F-350 stake bed pickup, transporting granite materials for a secondary inspection. A non-intrusive, canine, and physical inspection by CBP officers resulted in the discovery of 36 packages allegedly containing 834 pounds of marijuana. The marijuana carries an estimated street value of $166,844.

CBP officers seized the narcotics and the vehicle. The case was turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations (ICE-HSI) special agents for further investigation.
