LAREDO, TEXAS – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers recently seized a significant amount of marijuana with an estimated street value of more than $195,000 at World Trade Bridge in one enforcement action.

badge“This was an excellent interception by our CBP officers and a great example of the layered enforcement strategy implemented by CBP,” said Port Director Gregory Alvarez, Laredo Port of Entry.  “I congratulate the CBP officers for their outstanding effort in keeping these dangerous drugs from entering our country and at the same time processing legitimate trade through our port of entry.”

The seizure occurred on Wednesday, March 15, when a CBP officer referred a 2004 Freightliner tractor hauling a 1995 utility refrigerated trailer for a secondary inspection.  A non-intrusive, canine, and physical inspection by CBP officers resulted in the discovery of 276 packages allegedly containing 978 pounds of marijuana.  The marijuana carries an estimated street value of $195,592.

CBP officers seized the narcotics and trailer.  The case was turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations (ICE-HSI) special agents for further investigation.
