LAREDO, TEXAS- U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers assigned to work at the Lincoln-Juarez International Bridge seized a noteworthy amount of crystal methamphetamine and heroin in one enforcement action this weekend.

badge“The narcotics that were seized today are the kind that have been devastating the most vulnerable members of our communities and our nation,” said Port Director Gregory Alvarez, Laredo Port of Entry. “I congratulate the officers in carrying out the CBP mission and protecting the public from illegal narcotics.”

The seizure occurred on Saturday, March 25 at the Lincoln-Juarez International Bridge when a CBP officer referred a 2007 Jeep Liberty driven by 26-year-old United States citizen for a secondary examination. CBP officers conducted a secondary examination utilizing a non-intrusive imaging (NII) system and canine inspection and discovered packages hidden within the vehicle. A total of 14 packages were discovered allegedly containing 23 pounds of crystal methamphetamine and 18 pounds of heroin with a combined estimated street value of $962,556.

CBP officers arrested the driver and seized the narcotics. The case was turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations (ICE-HSI) special agents for further investigation.
