Webb County Garbage Collection Sign Up Continues

COURTESY LARRY SANCHEZ,

Registration for Webb County garbage collection services continues at the Webb County Road and Bridge department.

Effective April 1, 2017 services for garbage collection will no longer be provided for free and residents must now pre-pay for the services on a monthly basis.  This applies only to residents living outside the City limits of Laredo.

For more than 30 years Webb County has been providing these services free of charge.  Due to continued growth within the county it was determined that the costs associated with the service could no longer be absorbed by the county.

Concerns were raised last year when it was discovered that the county had no authority to provide trash collection services without an inter-local or cooperative agreement.  The county is currently continuing negotiations with the City of Laredo to enter into an Inter-local agreement to provide the service.

No later than March 1, 2017 residents will be required to have a contract with the county and pay for service to continue after April 1, 2017.

Anyone currently receiving service or located with one of the county’s service areas, and would like to receive service needs to sign a contract.  Existing service areas include, but are not limited to, those residing in Aguilares, Bonanza Hills, Botines, Bruni, Colorado Acres, D-5 Acres, Felix Vela Estates, La Coma, La Presa, Laredo Ranchettes, Las Lomas, Los Altos, Los Corralitos, Los Veteranos 83, Mirando City, Oilton, Pueblo Nuevo, Ranchitos 359 East, Ranchitos Los Centenarios and adjacent colonias, Ranchitos Los Minerales, Ranchos Penitas West, San Carlos 1 & 2 (aka, San Enrique), and Tanquecitos 1 & 2.

Effective April 1, 2017 garbage collection services will be discontinued for any customer who does not sign a service contract.

Those wishing to sign up for services can call the Webb County Road and Bridge department at 523-5300 to set up an appointment, ask any questions or discuss any concerns they may have.
