LAREDO, TEXAS – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers recently seized a significant amount of alleged marijuana hidden in a tractor trailer of a driver enrolled in the Free and Secure Trade (FAST) program.

“The primary officers’ experience and interviewing technique was a key component in this significant narcotic interception,” said Port Director Gregory Alvarez, Laredo Port of Entry. “I commend our officers for their hard work and commitment in keeping our borders secure and at the same time facilitating legitimate trade through our port of entry.”

The seizure occurred on Friday, Jan. 20, when a CBP officer referred a 1999 Freightliner tractor hauling a commercial shipment of empty racks for a non-intrusive inspection. A non-intrusive and physical inspection by CBP officers resulted in the discovery of 388 packages allegedly containing 8,905 pounds of alleged marijuana hidden within the shipment. The marijuana carries an estimated street value of $1,780,787.

CBP officers seized the narcotics. The case was turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations (ICE-HSI) special agents for further investigation.
