52lbscoclrd11616LAREDO, TEXAS – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers this weekend seized more than $400,000 in alleged cocaine inside a vehicle at Laredo Port of Entry.

“Being vigilant at all times is a key component ingrained into our officers,” said Port Director Gregory Alvarez, Laredo Port of Entry. “I commend the officers for their hard work and commitment to keeping dangerous drugs off of our streets.”

The incident occurred on Sunday, Nov. 6 at the Lincoln-Juarez Bridge when a CBP officer referred a 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt driven by a 36-year-old Mexican national from the city of Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas for a secondary examination. A canine and non-intrusive inspection by CBP officers resulted in the discovery of 20 packages allegedly containing 52 pounds of cocaine valued at $407,320.
CBP officers seized the vehicle and narcotics. The driver was arrested and the case was then turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations (ICE-HSI) special agents for further investigation.
