KGNS-TV Donates Books To Finley Elementary Students

Courtesy Veronica Cantu,

(Laredo, Texas)-This past summer, KGNS-TV hosted a social media campaign entitled “The Magic of Storytelling.” The campaign encouraged local youth to text a photo of themselves reading a book to “#selfie.”  For each photo received, KGNS pledged to donate a book to a United ISD student. This morning, KGNS news anchors Jerry Garza and Richard Noriega made good on their promise and delivered over 250 books to Finley Elementary School.  Third, fourth and fifth grade students were presented with the books in the school’s library and then enjoyed listening to stories read aloud by Mr. Garza and Mr. Noriega.

Gonzalez, and Finley Media Specialist Jackie Ramos. By placing new books in children’s hands, the KGNS Magic of Storytelling campaign promotes the importance of reading and highlights the tremendous benefits that reading can have on a child’s life. United ISD thanked KGNS for their generosity. The station hopes to conduct the social media campaign and book donation again next summer.
