(Laredo, Texas)-Lulac National Education Service Centers and LULAC are proud to announce that Alexander High School Senior Priscilla Martinez has been selected to participate in the 2016 Youth Leadership Seminar that is annually held in the nation’s capital. This year’s seminar promises to be full of exciting and educational events planned for young leaders from across the nation. Martinez had to write an essay to be selected for the program which focused on the importance of voting. Her Communities in Schools Coordinator, Olga Paez, told her of the application process when she started the school year.

“It makes me proud to work with Priscilla in the CIS program,” said Paez. “She always wants to excel in her classes and be a good role model for other students. I’m glad she was selected for this Leadership Seminar.”

Her principal, Ernesto Sandoval, echoed the same sentiments.

“We are filled with pride that Priscilla is going to represent United ISD and Alexander High School in Washington D.C. She will greatly benefit from this experience,” said AHS Principal Ernesto Sandoval.

The program was made possible by the combined efforts of Latino advocates represented through LNESC, LULAC, and corporate donors.

The Seminar is completely free of charge for selected students which also includes roundtrip airfare, lodging accommodations and a stipend for traveling expenses.

Upon graduation from AHS, Martinez will attend college to become a music teacher and hopes to teach back at her high school alma mater. Later, she would like to be a school administrator at the campus.

Martinez is the daughter of Eleazar and Sylvia Martinez.
