Texas 6, Joplin 4 (Game 1 – 7 Innings)
The Texas AirHogs scored five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to rally from a 4-1 deficit and beat Joplin in game one of a doubleheader, 6-4. Texas had 14 hits in the contest and was led by LF Leon Byrd who went 2-for-4 with a run scored and a RBI. AirHogs 1B Devon Rodriguez added three hits and two RBI while SS Juan Sanchezchipped in with a two-run home run in the fourth inning. Texas starting pitcher David Russo tossed five innings and picked up his third win of the season. Russo allowed four earned runs on six hits and struck out four batters. For the Blasters in the losing effort, 1B Geraldo Valentin had a 2-for-3 night with a pair of home runs.
Joplin 5, Texas 1 (Game 2 – Suspended – Top 6/Power Outage)
Game two of a doubleheader between Joplin and Texas was suspended due to a power outage in the top of the sixth inning. The contest will resume play at 10:05 AM tomorrow with the regularly scheduled game to follow.
Lincoln 2, Gary SouthShore 1
Lincoln 2B Cesar Valera singled home C Luis Alen with the game winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning as the Saltdogs win in a walk-off over Gary SouthShore, 2-1. Both players were the catalysts for the Lincoln offense tonight as they combined for four hits with Valera driving in Alen for both runs. Saltdogs starting pitcher Lindsey Caughel tossed a terrific game and notched his sixth victory of the year. Caughel went the distance allowing an earned run on four hits with a walk and 10 punchouts. With the Lincoln win coupled with the Sioux City loss, the Saltdogs now own a one-game lead in the Central Division.
Laredo 13, Kansas City 9
Laredo tallied four runs in the seventh inning to take an 11-5 lead and that would prove to be the difference in the game as the Lemurs outlasted Kansas City, 13-9. This contest was a true offensive slugfest as both teams combined for 22 runs on 31 hits. Lemurs LF Burt Reynolds went 3-for-5 with three runs scored and two RBI while 1B Jesus Posso chipped in with two hits, including a home run, and four RBI. Laredo RF Denis Phipps also launched a home run and scored two runs. Lemurs starter Ryan Beckman nabbed the victory and is now 8-6 on the season. Beckman gave up five earned runs on nine hits in six innings pitched. Designated hitter Anthony Gallas had a 3-for-5 night with a home run, two runs scored and five RBI in the loss for Kansas City.
Fargo-Moorhead 11, Winnipeg 7
The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks stayed red hot as they won their sixth straight in an 11-7 win over Winnipeg. Fargo-Moorhead pounded out 16 hits in the game and scored at least a run in each of the final five innings of play. RedHawks leadoff hitter Kes Carter was the star offensively going 3-for-6 with a double, two home runs and five RBI. Fargo-Moorhead SS Mike Gilmartin had a pair of hits, including a home run, two runs scored and two RBI with LF Brian Humphries hitting two doubles and driving in two runs. RedHawks pitcher Patrick Mincey tossed five innings of relief and picked up his second win with the club. Mincey gave up two earned runs on six hits.
Sioux Falls 8, Sioux City 4
Trailing 2-0 after 5 ½ innings of play, Sioux Falls would rally for eight runs over the next three and beat Sioux City, 8-4. Canaries CF Ethan Chapman and SS Blake Schmit led the offense as both went 2-for-4 with a run scored and a RBI. Sioux Falls 2B Darwin Perez added a two-run home run while C Michael Falsetti plated two runs and drove in one. Canaries hurler Madison Boer threw an inning of relief to grab his third win of the year. Boer allowed two earned runs on four hits and struck out two. For Sioux City in the loss, LF LeVon Washington had a 3-for-5 night with a run scored and a RBI.
