American Association Game Recaps for Saturday August 6th

Texas 3, Sioux Falls 2

Second baseman Brian Bistagne singled home LF Burt Reynolds in the sixth inning to give Texas a 3-1 lead and that proved to be the difference as they went on to defeat the Sioux Falls Canaries by a 3-2 score. AirHogs leadoff hitterMichael Hur and 3B Cory Morales led the way offensively as each had 2-for-4 nights at the plate with a run scored. Texas starting pitcher Cody Hebner threw seven solid innings in earning his fourth victory of the season. Hebner allowed two earned runs on three hits with a pair of walks and five strikeouts. For Sioux Falls in the loss, LF Cameron Monger went 2-for-3 with a home run.

 Wichita 4, Lincoln 1

 Wichita jumped out to a 3-1 lead after 1 ½ innings of play and would never look back as the Wingnuts defeated the Lincoln Saltdogs by a 4-1 final. All the runs from Wichita tonight came via the long ball. Wingnuts 1B Matt Chavez hit two home runs, a two-run shot in the first and a solo blast in the sixth, with DH Brennen Salgado chipping in a home run in the second. Wichita starting pitcher Alex Boshers tossed seven innings and picked up his ninth win of the year. Boshers allowed an earned run on nine hits with a walk and two strikeouts.

 St. Paul 5, Fargo-Moorhead 3

 The St. Paul Saints scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to rally from a 3-2 deficit and beat the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks by the score of 5-3. St. Paul had 11 hits in the game with four batters having multi-hit games. Saints LFWillie Argo went 2-for-3 with a home run, two runs scored and two RBI while C Aaron Gretz had a pair of hits and a run batted in. St. Paul pitcher Caleb Thielbar threw two shutout innings of relief to earn his fourth win of the year. For Fargo-Moorhead in the losing effort, 1B Dustin Geiger had a 2-for-4 night with a run scored and a RBI.

 Winnipeg 11, Gary SouthShore 2

 The Winnipeg Goldeyes continue to play solid baseball as they pick up their seventh win in a row by beating the Gary SouthShore RailCats, 11-2. Winnipeg pounded out 18 hits in the contest and was led by RF Willie Cabrera who went 3-for-5 with a double, a home run, three runs scored and four RBI. Goldeyes CF Reggie Abercrombie collected five hits, scored a run and drove in two with LF Adam Heisler going 3-for-5 and plating two runs. Winnipeg starter Kevin McGovern tossed a complete game en route to his fifth victory. McGovern gave up two earned runs on two hits and struck out eight batters.

 lemursJoplin 6, Laredo 5

 Third baseman Brandon Tierney’s RBI groundout in the seventh inning gave Joplin a 6-4 lead and helped the Blasters hold off the Laredo Lemurs, 6-5. Tierney had two hits and two RBI on the night while 2B Mitch Glasser had a perfect 3-for-3 game at the plate with a run scored. Joplin SS Alex Polston also chipped in with a hit in three at-bats and plated two runs. Blasters starting pitcher Wander Pereznotched the victory as he allowed two earned runs on seven hits in five innings pitched. Perez is now 2-1 on the season. Center fielderDenis Phipps went 2-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored and three RBI in the loss for Laredo.

Kansas City 6, Sioux City 3 (10 Innings)

The Kansas City T-Bones scored three runs in the top of the 10th inning to rally past the Sioux City Explorers, 6-3. Sioux City carried a 3-1 lead into the ninth only to see Kansas City 3B Jimmy Mojica belt a two-run home run to tie the score up at 3-3 and send the contest into extra innings. Mojica had two hits, two runs scored and two RBI while CF Tyler Massey added three hits and scored a run. Kansas City closer Mark Haynes threw two innings of scoreless relief with three strikeouts to win the game and improve his record to 2-1 on the season.
