(Laredo, Texas)-United ISD is anticipating big energy savings following a district-wide switch to L.E.D. lighting during the summer break. The District’s replacement of fluorescent lighting with L.E.D. at all of its campuses and facilities is expected to yield savings estimated at one million dollars per year. Modern L.E.D. fixtures require less power to operate, are environmentally friendly, and last up to 10 times longer.
“Another advantage of L.E.D. lighting is that it provides additional illumination without producing more heat. This reduction in heat significantly reduces costs associated with the operation of air conditioning systems” said Manuel Menchaca, United ISD Director of Environmental Management.
