Venegas Sentencing Set

(Laredo, Texas)-Gerardo Venegas will be formally sentenced today, Thursday, July 21, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the 341st District Court. Venegas was detained yesterday afternoon in Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, Mexico for Immigration Violations.
He was returned to the U.S. at about 6:00 p.m. where U.S. Custom and Border Protection Agents processed him and turned him over to U.S. Law Enforcement Officials. U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Fugitive Task Force, District Attorney’s Office Investigators and Webb County Sheriff’s Office Investigators worked the fugitive’s case.
On May 20, 2016 Venegas was found guilty of aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury with a deadly weapon and accident involving serious bodily injury with a deadly weapon. A capias with no bond was issued for Venegas as he did not appear in the courtroom for the reading of the verdict. The Court sentenced Venegas to 20 years to serve for the aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury charge and five years for accident involving serious bodily injury with a deadly weapon.
