(Laredo, Texas)-According to the 2016 Student Success Ratings by Eduventures, a leading research and advisory firm, Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) is ranked the nation’s top public master’s-level university when it comes to student retention.

Eduventures gave TAMIU an overall score of 87 based on a retention rate assessing academics, affordability, and social factors with the University’s actual retention rates. TAMIU was the only member of The Texas A&M University System in the top 10 and one of only two universities in Texas in the top 10. TAMIU scored first in its category, public masters. University of

Texas-Pan American followed at 76, sixth.
Eduventures analyzed more than 1,100 institutions based in the U.S. Since Eduventures’ Student Success Score only compares reasonably alike institutions, a private master’s-level institution’s score is not comparable to a public masters-level institution’s score like TAMIU.

TAMIU interim president Dr. Pablo Arenaz said the importance of a high rating for student retention can’t be understated.
“A substantially high ranking like this tells both parents and students that this University has made a commitment to providing the services and resources that students need to succeed. A high retention rate is directly aligned to increased likelihood of timely degree completion, which can also spell substantial savings for the student and their families and, of course, speed their entry into their chosen career. We are gratified to see the hard work of our students, faculty and administration recognized in this manner, and we would encourage parents and their students to consider their possibilities at TAMIU this Fall, of course,” Dr. Arenaz said.

According to the report author, Eduventures Principal Analyst Kim Reid, “Our new student rankings seek to find the strong performers that have beat the market on student success in a number of ways.”

The report authors requested TAMIU’s participation in additional research about how the University delivers student success.
“We’d like your high level thoughts about how your institution approaches student success and what has made you successful,” Reid wrote TAMIU’s Arenaz.

TAMIU offers over 70 undergraduate, graduate and doctoral degrees in the College of Arts and Sciences, A. R. Sanchez, Jr. School of Business, College of Education, and the College of Nursing and Health Sciences. Find out more about TAMIU at tamiu.edu/prospect
