(Laredo, Texas)-Centeno Elementary students collected pet food, supplies and sundry items for donation to the City of Laredo Animal Shelter. The effort is part of a larger campaign to promote adoptions, owner education, spaying and neutering.
The idea to donate to the shelter came from Jose Ramon de los Santos, a 5th grade student and Mayor of Commerce Bank’s Centenoville Minitropolis project. Principal Laura P. de los Santos said that the month of May is Pet Awareness Month at the campus. “All of our students pitched in to comfort and feed the dogs and cats at the shelter,” said de los Santos. Homero Vasquez, Interem Director of Laredo Animal Care Services and two animal control officers accepted the donations during a recent visit to the campus. “I thank these students for the donations. I also commend them for taking the initiative to help so many animals who need good homes,” said Vasquez.
