LAREDO, TEXAS – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers this weekend seized more than $686,000 in alleged methamphetamine during a routine examination at the Laredo Port of Entry

“As the summer temperatures edge ever higher, our CBP officers continue to maintain their vigilance and seized a significant load of alleged methamphetamine this weekend at the port of entry,” said Port Director Gregory Alvarez, Laredo Port of Entry. “Their commitment to keeping our border secure is illustrated through this enforcement action.”

The seizure occurred on Saturday, June 25, 2016 at Lincoln-Juarez Bridge. CBP officers referred a 2015 Honda Fit driven by a 25-year-old male U.S. citizen to secondary for further inspection. Utilizing all available tools and resources, CBP officers conducted an intensive examination and discovered 52 packages containing a total of 34 pounds of alleged methamphetamine. The drugs carry an estimated street value of $686,953.

CBP officers seized the vehicle and narcotics. CBP officers arrested the driver and the case was turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations (ICE-HSI) special agents for further investigation.
