American Association Game Recaps for Tuesday June 14th

Joplin 6, Laredo 5

The Blasters plated four runs in the bottom of the second, enough to propel Joplin past Laredo 6-5 on Tuesday. With one run already home in the second, 2B Mitch Glasser hit a two-RBI double to give Joplin the lead. One more run would score in the frame, but Laredo tied the game at 4-4 in the top of the third. SS Will Soto notched a two-RBI double in the bottom of the third that gave Joplin the lead for good, and the Blasters would tack on the eventual winning run on a solo homer from RF Zack Burling in the sixth.

Soto and CF Oscar Mesa had three hits each for the Blasters in the win. RHP Patrick Mincey worked five innings to earn his first win of the season, and RHP Winston Abreu struck out two in a scoreless ninth for the save.

For Laredo, RF Denis Phipps was 3-for-4 with two home runs.

Winnipeg 5, Texas 3

With three runs in the bottom of the seventh, the host Goldeyes held off the AirHogs 5-3. Winnipeg had two on and two out in the seventh when SS Maikol Gonzalez gave the Goldeyes the lead for good on a two-RBI double. Two batters later, RF David Rohm added an insurance run on an RBI single. Earlier, 1B Jacob Rogers hit his fifth homer of the year for Winnipeg, a solo shot to lead off the fourth. Rohm had a team-high three hits, while DH Adam Heisler collected two hits.

LHP Conor Spink recorded just one out, but earned the win. RHP Jailen Peguero picked up his fifth save with a scoreless ninth.

For Texas, DH Will DuPont accounted for all of the scoring with a three-run homer in the top of the fourth.

Wichita 5, Kansas City 1

The Wingnuts scored just three batters into the home portion of the first inning, and never relinquished the lead in a 5-1 win over the T-Bones. 2B Christian Stringer drew a leadoff walk, went to third on a double off the bat of 3B Zack Cox before DH Brent Clevlen recorded an RBI groundout. CF Harrison Kain doubled the lead with an RBI double in the fourth, and Wichita put the game comfortably in hand with three runs in the sixth. SS Leo Vargas knocked in two runs on a two-RBI double, and a Cox RBI single accounted for the final run. Cox had a big night at the plate, going 4-for-5 with the RBI.

RHP Jon Link was strong on the mound, striking out seven while allowing just one run over seven innings.

3B Brandon Tierney was 3-for-4 for Kansas City in the loss.

Gary SouthShore 11, Sioux Falls 4

An efficient offensive attack of 11 runs on 11 hits carried the RailCats to an 11-4 win over the Canaries in Sioux Falls. With the RailCats down 3-1 in the top of the sixth, LF Tillman Pugh connected for a three-run home run to put Gary SouthShore in the lead. DH Frank Martinez drove in one more run in the four-run sixth on an RBI single. Four more RailCats runs scored in the ninth, including a pair on a two-RBI single from Martinez. Martinez had previously recorded an RBI on a bases-loaded walk in the third. The four-RBI night was not even a club high, as Pugh drove in five thanks to a seventh inning RBI single and ninth inning RBI double. Pugh finished a triple shy of the cycle on the night.

With four strikeouts in five innings, RHP Charle Rosario picked up the win for Gary SouthShore.

For Sioux Falls, SS Ozney Guillen was 3-for-5 with an RBI.

Lincoln 6, Fargo-Moorhead 3

A four-run top of the fifth gave Lincoln the boost the Saltdogs needed in a 6-3 road win over the RedHawks. DH Curt Smith drove in the inning’s first run on an RBI double, and would score himself when LF Jon Smith singled. 3B Pat Kelly drove in two more runs on a two-RBI double. Kelly finished his night 4-for-5 with the two RBI, while Smith was 3-for-4.

LHP Jeff McKenzie struck out five in six innings of work for the win, and RHP Evan Reed tossed a scoreless ninth for the save.

2B Ryan Pineda hit a solo home run for Fargo-Moorhead in the loss.

Sioux City at St. Paul- Postponed (Weather)

The game between the Explorers and Saints has been postponed due to weather. The game will be made up as part of a doubleheader on Wednesday, June 15, with the first game set to start at 6:05 p.m. Central Time at CHS Field.
