Gary SouthShore 4, Sioux City 3 (11 innings)
1B Alex Crosby led off the bottom of the 11th inning with a walkoff home run, pushing the RailCats to a 4-3 win over the Explorers on Sunday at the U.S. Steel Yard. The blast was Crosby’s first of the season and first hit of the day. Gary SouthShore had previously scored on an RBI single by CF Tillman Pugh in the fourth inning, as well as back-to-back RBI singles from RF Masato Fukae and DH Brennan Metzger in the fifth. Both Fukae and Metzger finished their day with two hits.
LHP Andy Roberts threw 3.1 scoreless innings of relief, earning him the win, his second of 2016.
SS Nate Samson had a big day for Sioux City, going 4-for-5 with a double.
Winnipeg 4, Fargo-Moorhead 2
The Goldeyes entered the top of the ninth trailing 2-1, but by the conclusion of the inning, Winnipeg found themselves up 4-2, a score that would hold in a road win over the RedHawks. 1B Jacob Rogers tied the game with an RBI double, and CF Reggie Abercrombiegave the Goldeyes the lead with an RBI double of his own that scored Rogers. Abercrombie would score an insurance run on the inning’s third RBI double, this one from 3B Wes Darvill.
Abercrombie and Darvill had two hits apiece for Winnipeg in the win. LHP Eric Eadington picked up the win in relief, while RHP Jailen Peguero worked a scoreless bottom of the ninth to earn the save.
For Fargo-Moorhead, CF Chad Mozingo went 2-for-4.
Kansas City 5, Joplin 3
The T-Bones raced out to a 4-0 lead in the game’s first two innings and did not look back in earning a 5-3 win over the Blasters on Sunday afternoon. CF Tyler Massey opened the scoring with an RBI double in the home half of the first, and 2B Brett Wiley stretched the lead to 3-0 with a two-run homer in the second. Massey drove in another run in the second with an RBI single. A final T-Bones run scored in the fourth on a wild pitch. Massey and RF Starlin Rodriguez both finished their day with two hits to lead the team.
RHP Sean Furney worked five solid innings to earn the win for Kansas City, while RHP Mark Haynes shut the door for a save in the ninth inning.
1B Charlie Valerio had an RBI double for Joplin, his sixth run knocked in this season.
Texas 7, Wichita 3
A day after allowing the Wingnuts to take the lead in the ninth and earn a win, the AirHogs dominated Sunday as they took a 7-3 win. LF Burt Reynolds hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the third, and another run would score later in the inning for Texas, as they opened up a 4-0 lead. 3B Austin Gallagher pushed the lead to 5-0 with an RBI single in the fourth, and Texas scored twice more in the eighth on a two-run homer by Reynolds, his second long ball of the day. While Reynolds had a huge day at the plate, CF Michael Hur and RF Cody Lenahan led Texas with three hits each.
On the mound, RHP Palmer Betts worked eight strong innings to earn the win, pushing his record to 3-1 on the season.
