(Laredo, Texas)-This summer, regional participants in the Texas A&M International University GEAR UP IV Program can enjoy a summer experience that could help them “build” a successful future. The TAMIU GEAR UP IV Program is hosting six Construction Management Academies here in June, July and August.
Dr. Edelmiro Escamilla, an assistant instructional professor from the Texas A&M University College of Architecture, department of Construction Science, will lead the Academies.
The Academies are being provided at TAMIU free of charge to students through an innovative collaboration between TAMIU GEAR UP IV, Texas A&M University and the generosity of major construction companies and organizations such as Marek Brothers, Urban Oaks Builders, Spawglas, Joeris, Bartlett Cocke, Texo-AGC-ABC and Satterfield and Pontikes.
Academy dates are as follows: June 7-11, June 14-18, June 21-25, June 28-July 2, July 26-30 and August 2-6.
Academy capacity is 25 students per Academy and participation is limited to GEAR UP IV Program cohort members. Students will learn about Construction Science, explore job outlooks and salary scales.
They will participate in interactive lectures, design/building, site visits, building information modeling, and specialized presentations by Department of Construction Science faculty. Students will come away with “scaffolded” knowledge of the field and gain a “blueprint” for what a career in Construction Science entails. Meals and refreshments will be provided. Students will be required to stay on campus and will complete the Academy CPR-certified.
For additional information and application packets, interested students should contact the TAMIU GEAR UP IV Site Coordinator at their respective high schools or Martha S. Trevino at ma****@ta***.edu or at 956.326.3062.
