(Laredo, Texas)- In a tough contested race for Webb County Commissioner Pct.1 Jesse Gonzalez defeats Former City Council Member Dist.2 Esteban Rangel who was the odds on favorite to win. This run-off race is the result of a March General Election that initially had five candidates vying for the position that included current Webb County Commissioner Frank Sciaraffa as the incumbent. Sciaraffa ended up fourth in the General Election with Rangel and Gonzalez advancing to the run-off.
Rangel had quit his position as City Council Member to seek higher office as Commissioner he left two years in an unfinished second term that he had won while running unopposed.
With stronger name recognition, high priced marketing in motion, and a huge political machine behind him everyone expected Esteban Rangel to come out victorious but Jesse Gonzalez who is a Captain in the Webb County Shefiff’s Department and his supporters worked day in and day out to pull off what will be widely remembered as one of the biggest upset victories in Webb County history.
These were the final official results for the race JESSE GONZALEZ 2,330 TOTAL VOTES and ESTEBAN RANGEL 2,284 TOTAL VOTES.
