(Laredo, Texas)-Alexander High School Army JROTC cadets along with Sgt. Joseph Garcia and Sgt. Conrado Martinez retired nine U.S. flags during its first Flag Retirement Ceremony, on April 28, 2016 at Alexander High School. More than 70 people attended the ceremony where the flags were burned, in the correct and time-honored tradition. U.S. flags must be disposed of through burning and should not be thrown in the trash.
AHS Army JROTC program is developed to motivate young adults to become better citizens and is currently serving 82 cadets. This exercise provided the cadets as a service-learning project as well. The AHS Army JROTC invites the community to drop off any unserviceable, faded, torn and or weathered flags to the school, so that they may retire them appropriately.
