LAREDO, TEXAS – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers recently seized a significant amount of cocaine and heroin at World Trade Bridge.

“Our officers are specially trained and work as a team to effectively target and intercept these types of narcotics,” said Port Director Gregory Alvarez, Laredo Port of Entry. “The officers’ training clearly played a significant role in the discovery of these hard narcotics.”

The incident occurred on Tuesday, Feb. 23, when a CBP officer referred a tractor trailer hauling a commercial shipment of ceramic tile for a non-intrusive inspection. A canine and non-intrusive inspection by CBP officers resulted in the discovery of 121 packages allegedly containing 171 pounds of cocaine and 126 pounds of heroin. The narcotics combined carry an estimated street value of $4,182,600.

CBP officers seized the narcotics. The case was turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations (ICE-HSI) special agents for further investigation.
