LAREDO, TEXAS – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers recently seized a significant amount of marijuana in a commercial shipment of soap at World Trade Bridge.
“This seizure demonstrates a great example of teamwork from our CBP officers,” said Port Director Gregory Alvarez, Laredo Port of Entry. “The officers’ training clearly played a significant role in the discovery of this hard narcotic.”
The seizure occurred on Thursday, Jan. 28, when a CBP officer referred a tractor trailer hauling a commercial shipment of soap for a non-intrusive inspection. A canine and non-intrusive inspection by CBP officers resulted in the discovery of 995 packages allegedly containing 1,806 pounds of marijuana hidden within the shipment. The marijuana carries an estimated street value of $361,378.
CBP officers seized the narcotics. The case was turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations (ICE-HSI) special agents for further investigation.
