LAREDO, Texas –U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers recently discovered liquor bottles spiked with an even more noxious ingredient than alcohol; approximately $168,000 in alleged liquid heroin.

“We may have changed the location where we process our bus traffic but the resolve, inspection skills and experience of our frontline officers remains the same and that tenacity resulted in the seizure of a significant amount of hard narcotics in liquid form,” said Port Director Gregory Alvarez, Laredo Port of Entry.

The seizure occurred on Feb. 15 at Lincoln-Juarez Bridge. A CBP officer referred a 46 year-old female Mexican citizen bus passenger from Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico for a secondary inspection. During the examination, CBP officers inspected her luggage and found two bottles of liquor. Upon closer examination, CBP officers discovered that the bottles contained a gross weight of 7.4 pounds of liquid heroin. The narcotics have an estimated street value of $168,000.
CBP officers arrested the bus passenger and turned her over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations (ICE-HSI) special agents for further investigation.
