(Laredo, Texas)-As part of the Washington’s Birthday Celebration, the Laredo Energy Arena will once again host the Taste of Laredo on Thurs., Feb. 4, 2016 at 7:00 p.m.
“We are honored to hold this event for the 14th year in commemoration of our First President, George Washington,” said Xavier Villalon, General Manager of the SMG – Managed Laredo Energy Arena. “Washington may have not set foot in Laredo, but he would be proud of what has become of our border town and the bi-cultural diversity it offers.”
Every year, approximately 2,500 Laredoans and tourists sample delicious food from both sides of the border.
There will be over 10 restaurants to choose from, as chefs and cooks go spatula-to-spatula for the coveted titles of:
People’s Choice Best Tasting Cuisine Best Tasting Delicacies Choice Overall Best Decorating |

People can expect a Premium Beer Tasting, Pizza and Blazing Wing Eating Competition and much more! For alcohol consumption, must be 21 years and over. A George Strait tribute will be performed by Dereck Spence.
A Texan native, who was born in Nacogdoches, Spence earned a degree in Performing Arts Production from South Plains College. He has performed everywhere from Fiesta Texas to the Grand Ole Opry. During his time spent at the Grand Ole Opry, he shared the stage with folks like Shania Twain, Diamond Rio, Kenny Rogers, Trisha Yearwood, and Restless Heart.
While in Nashville, two major record labels turned him down because they said “You look too much like George Strait”. The look and vocal talent have helped Derek become the top “George Strait Tribute Show” in America.
