First Associate Judge to the District Courts of Webb County Sworn-In

(Laredo, Texas)-On Monday, September 14, 2015 the formal public ceremony was held for newly sworn-in Associate Judge Melissa Joy Garcia. The Honorable Judge Oscar Hale presided over the ceremony which took place in the 49th District Court. The District Judges for the 49th, 111th, 341st and 406th were all in attendance. Also in attendance were Judge Garcia’s family, friends and colleagues.
Judge Garcia was selected for this position by the Webb County District Court of Judges. The position of Associate Judge to the Webb County District Courts is a newly created position. The new Associate Judge will handle an array of matters, both civil and criminal.
Judge Garcia was born and raised in Laredo, Texas. She attended J.W. Nixon High School and later received a B.A. in criminal justice from the University of Texas at San Antonio. She later attended St. Mary’s University School of Law and received a Doctorate of Jurisprudence in 2001. Judge Garcia has practiced law for 14 years. Her experience includes working as an Assistant Federal Public Defender, Assistant City Attorney, and an Assistant Webb County Public Defender. She has also practiced law privately. Judge Garcia was previously appointed as interim Justice of the Peace, Precinct 2, Place 2, by Judge Peeples of San Antonio.
