DURHAM, NC- The official statistician of the American Association, Pointstreak, has announced that Winnipeg Goldeyes RHP Edwin Carl has been named this week’s Pointstreak Pitcher of the Week for the week ending September 6.
The Farmington, N.M. resident made just one start this week, but made it count. On Sunday, he faced the Lincoln Saltdogs at Winnipeg’s Shaw Park. Carl tossed a complete game, working all nine innings and allowing just one run on six hits. He did not walk a batter and struck out 10 in an 8-1 Goldeyes win.
Carl is now 6-1 with a 2.10 ERA in eight games (seven starts) since joining Winnipeg on August 2. Over 55.2 innings, he has struck out 61. He had previously pitched with the Frontier League’s Schaumburg Boomers earlier this season, making 11 starts. Carl did not play professionally in 2014, but had spent 2010-2013 with the Kansas City Royals and Los Angeles Dodgers systems. He pitched as high up as Class AA Northwest Arkansas, where he appeared in 25 games in 2013. Carl was originally a non-drafted free agent signee with the Royals in 2010.
