Laredo, TX (Webb County) — Webb County Sheriff’s Office Deputies are searching for the driver of a vehicle loaded with marijuana that eluded authorities.

A Sheriff Deputy patrolling Cuatro Vientos Road over the weekend attempted to stop a blue GMC Envoy SUV for a traffic violation. Shortly after initiating the traffic stop, the deputy noticed the driver of the GMC speed up as it was being led by a blue Chrysler 300 that began driving recklessly in an effort to distract the deputy from approaching the GMC. The driver of the Chrysler 300 blocked the lane the GMC was traveling on, allowing the vehicle to speed off the roadway and onto a barricaded section on Sierra Vista Boulevard. When the deputy caught up to the vehicle, the driver had abandoned the GMC at the corner of Cielo Drive and Socrates Lane.

A search of the vehicle revealed three large plastic bags containing 59 pounds of marijuana. The vehicle was impounded, pending an on-going investigation. Once the driver is located, he faces charges for Possession of Marijuana and Evading Arrest with a Motor Vehicle.

Anyone with information on this case is urged to call authorities at 727-TIPS (8477). All calls will remain anonymous.
